Our hearts cry out oh Lord
God of Abraham
And father of us all.

Our hearts cry out for a world in terror
How long must we war against ourselves?
When will your reign of peace come?
How can our spirits not burn within us
As we watch in abject helplessness
the violence and oppression
which so poison our streets,
our communities,
our lives?

Our hearts cry out for the victims of violence
Those gunned down by the hatred of others
Those living in fear of a sound outside the door

Our hearts cry out for the families and loved ones
Left to mourn an incomprehensible and senseless loss
Those known to us, and those known only to You
Be their comfort and strength as they face sorrow
Most can barely imagine.
Be our strength and resolve
as we seek to comfort and mourn alongside them.

Our hearts cry out, yes, for the attackers.
Lord what kind of hatred must live in their hearts
To even consider, let alone plan and then execute
Violence of this scale and nature?
Lord, come upon the minds of our enemies.
Where there is hatred,
Bring your peace, love and compassion
Overcome evil with good

Our hearts cry out for justice Lord
Not for retribution or counter-attacking power
But for your real and lasting justice
Bringing peace, dignity, equality and purpose
For all your people

Our hearts cry out for peace.

Our hearts cry out for safety

Our hearts cry out.

How long must we cry in vain?

HOW LONG?

Our hearts cry out.
