So now there’s a new Jurassic Park movie coming. Or more accurately “Jurassic World”. As if we needed any more evidence that Hollywood has run out of ideas. I have to admit to feeling more than a little bit too-old-for-this-shit when classic remakes are being made of films that came out when I was in primary school.

Now back then, when the first Jurassic park came out, of course is was just the greatest thing ever. As a kid who was into dinosaurs instead of cars I the first place, I couldn’t wait to see it and was completely blown away.

I’ll be the first to admit that while the animatronics were amazing, the tech and story central to the film hasn’t dated well. But that doesn’t change how awesome the raptors were, or how terrifying in the Tyrannosaurus was.

And now they’ve come back with a new genetically engineered dinosaur, just to keep things fresh and new. Apparently just plain old T-Rex doesn’t cut it anymore. Oh dear darling, that’s just so early Jurassic period. Practically prehistoric. I honestly don’t know if I can bring myself to watch it. I fairly seriously regretted watching JP 2 and JP 3. A film called JWs would just freak me out, but it wouldn’t be raptors I’d be worried about opening the doors.

Meanwhile, whatever Clive Palmer might believe, we’re no closer to making the dream of resurrected dinosaurs a reality, but according to some research I found this week, there’s a company somewhere that believes they have collected enough viable DNA material to feasibly clone a woolly mammoth. Just in time for the global warming crisis.

I mean, they say it’s feasible, but I wonder if they’ve really thought it through. I mean, the genetic replication technology is expensive enough, but once you’ve cloned a mammoth, whose job is it going to be feed it and clean up after it hmm? Remember kids, a mastodon isn’t just for Christmas.

It’s a huge responsibility.
