I’ve been feeling overly and probably unjustifiably smug lately. This is probably nothing new, but of late it seems like it’s completely out of control. There could be any number of reasons for this, but basically I believe it is probably all Aaron Sorkin’s fault.

Identity is important. It’s important for individuals, it’s important for cultural groups, sub-cultures and even for whole countries. Before we can begin to understand the world around us, we have to know who we are, right? Over the last few days I’ve watched on in bemusement as a number of groups, who apparently have trouble identifying who they are, have turned themselves inside out, trying to define themselves by who they are not.

When a writer such as myself establishes a certain reputation for being right all the time, inevitably it begins to draw the attention of the good, the great, the influential, and – if you’ve really made it big – the Dylan Malloch. I don’t mean to brag, but I was recently contacted via a popular online social media platform by the man himself with a request for an article. And since I have absolutely nothing better to do with my time, I thought to myself, “Fine. Whatever”.
